Guan Hong

self critique:I think it is a failure .the stylisation of my do look like me but using effort to draw,i think i am proud of myself.i uses cubise to stylies my portriat as it is quite easy to draw and it only involve straight lines.I choose front portriat as it has all my face feature and it is qite a challenge.^^
(ii)Out of 10 marks, i will give myself 5 marks.
(iii)If i have a chance to draw diffently,i will now draw again.
Peer critique to Germaine:She drew a stylies of herself that a picture is burning away as it is like flame of her.
(ii)She has did repetittion as the flower is repeated. It would be good if she present some depth in her drawing like drawing some flowers from big to small.
(iii) The flower are blooming and yet she is melting away. This word seem to create a mix feeling of sadness and happiness. Like life, there's always sadness and happiness.

Germaine

Self-critique:
I think that this drawing is quite successful, because it's also a piece of art after all. And I also think that the designs are quite special because of those flames for stylisation.
Out of 10 marks, I think I would give myself 8 marks, because there's always a room for improvement if I put in more effort than what I am putting in now.
If I'm given a chance to draw again, I think I'll draw differently. Although I like this piece, there may be other pieces that are nicer and unique.
Peer-critique:
I think that Mahsuri has great drawings, as she has put effort in her work. There were lines, and there were also depth, as she darkens her lines. As for me, I think that her drawing is about her culture, as we can see that there are some malay decorations around her drawing.
Those lines are really different from others, and it's uniquely different. She has repetition showed for her culture, and that shows that she's really wanting a great work for her end results.
She has contrasted her drawings, as divided into 2 sides and a side shaded and one side not.
It's very creative and it shows her character. It's pretty and she looks quite happy in the drawing. Compared to mine, I think that you've put more effort than me in this work. You've really done well, and I think it's very successful. This drawing makes people feel different, and I know you can do better. Keep it up (:
-Germaine.

Mahsuri

Self critic ;

What qualities of the work make you feel it is a success or a failure?
I feel that my art pieces are drawn mainly using a mixture of modern and tradisional design. Mainly i like to darken the outline and put some bright colour into it. My drawing was drawn with using half of my face and the other half was all my malay culture designs. In my opinion, my drawing is a success because I am using a lot of atistic design and the layout seems beautiful.

Out of 10 marks, how many marks will you reward yourself?
Out of 10, i feel i reward myself with 7 out of 10. My art pieces are not drawn perfectly yet but i am keen to learn more about different kinds of drawings.

If given a chance to start all over again, what would you have done differently?
If i have given the chance, i would shade and fill up all the needed sides to be shaded. I am not so impressed with the shading and the outline and it seems plain. But, i will shade the the
sides using different types of shading techniques. It may seem nice and bautifully done too.

Peer, (Jacqueline)
Heyy Jacquline, nice design you got there. You use many types of your own cultural designs. You are really a good drawer and has a high potential of drawing and shading too. Good job, you use repitition because your background have a ot of repeating designs. Keep it up.

shirley

Self Critique:
(i) I think that it is a failure as i complicated it too much, that it did not turn out as nice as I thought.

(ii) 06/10

(iii)I could have simplify it to make it less complicated, so as it would look nicer, and emphasis on what I wanted to emphasis.

Peer Critique[supuchcha]:
(i) supuchcha's drawing showed alot of her Thai culture, but it is not so obvious as she mixed them together.there is also writings of thai languages that expressed her culture.

(ii) There is emphasis on the center of the drawing which looked like her face, though its not big or colourful, she made use of dots and lines to emphasis it.

(iii) The background on the left hand side, looked like a sun, while the other side, she made use of cris-crosses, which shows both her negative & positive side.

(iv) This work is a success. She showed out her culture fully and made it out that it is her own culture and she is proud of being a part of it.

phyllis

self critique :
i think that its quite a failure as the shapes were like improportional. and the sizes dint match.
but i like the design i have made and if i can start again i will change the sizes accurately and i will put in more effort when doing my work. i will give myself 6/10

peer critque ( friend below me ) SHAFIQAH
i think she have put in alot effort in her work and she draw with thick lines and she drew her drawing colour contrast. she used pop art in her drawing which is very hard to draw and she put in alot of effort in her work. she did her drawings in a very complicated way. but her drawings look happy as though she enjoy drawing alot
overall i think its a great success snd i think she is very creative

peng yang

self critique

(i)I felt that its a great success as we put alot of time and mind into this drawings.

(ii)I will award myself 7/10.

(iii)I would do more on colouring and redesign the whole again.

Peer critique

(i)Her drawing is rather attractive and special, she change her face and hair were light in colour.

(ii)Her eyes were too big for her face, the picture of her is 60% matching to the real life but over all the features of her face is quite similar.

(iii)I think she would have done better if she used more colour on the painting.

(iv)Her work is well done and its a big success!!!!

recapping on the process and new task for youfor march holiday!

first task: draw 10 items that relate to your culture. (credit to Germaine)

Task 2: Using grid reference as a guide, draw two view of yourself.

task 3: stylise yourself and some of your drawn objects related to your culture.
task 4: combine your research into 2 layouts.

Task 5: upload your final design and do a self critique and peer critique (of your peer's drawing posted below you).
Questions to guide
Self Critique
Reflection on the artmaking process on “Who am I?”
i) What qualities of the work make you feel it is a success or failure?
ii) Out of 10 marks, how many marks will you award yourself?
iii) If given a chance to start all over again, what would you have done
differently?
Peer Critique (critique on your peer's work posted below you)
i) Describe what you see,
using elements of art (line, shape, form, texture and so forth) as your guide, describe what your peer drawn, what is the whole image about.
eg - XXX's work drew an stylization of herself. She melted herself in the image and she drew different shapes in her objects making it unique.
ii) Analyse how the work is being presented,
using principles of design (emphasis, repetition, rhythm, depth and so forth), analyse what is the relationship of the subject matter and the background.
eg- XXX did some repetition in her drawing. She repeated a flower which is representative of her culture. There is some rhythm in how she present her face by displacing them in a up-down layout. It would be good if she present some depth in her drawing like drawing some flowers from big to small.
iii) Interpretate how the work make you feel and think,
-Describe the expressive qualities you find in the work. What expressive language would you use to describe the qualities (i.e., tragic, ugly, funny)?
-Does the work remind you of other things you have experienced (i.e., analogy or metaphor)?
-How does the work relate to other ideas or events in the world and/or in your other studies?
eg. XXX's drawing seem sad as she is melting away. The flower are blooming and yet she is melting away. This word seem to create a mix feeling of sadness and happiness. Like life, there's always sadness and happiness.
iv) Evaluate if this work is a success or a failure.
-What qualities of the work make you feel it is a success or failure?
-Compare it with similar works that you think are good or bad.
-How original is the work? Why do you feel this work is original or not original?
eg.. it's a success. I like her work as it evoke a mixed feeling in me. I like the rhythmetic feel of the art piece. and this piece of work is orginal. I never see this work before.

comment on the painting:The image from the ZENG FANGZHI mask series really caught my attention. It is really a gorgeous and beautiful image. The colours that are being used really brings out the live in the image. The image told me that no matter who you are, what your religion is or what race your in,we are still the same people and we are together as one.The image shows the bonding of everyone in different races. The artist may not want to show their each and every one faces as not to show their race and reilgion.

There are some things you can't treat,
only stuffs like medicine you can eat.

comment on the painting:

the image from ZENG FANZHI Mask Series, look gorgeous it uses different colour to represent the image. The artist may be saying that the point of wearing the mask its is because of the fact that he did not want to show the actual face of the person as it maybe because of the races or religion. It may also be saying that the image are being masked up due to the event that they were having which included a mask. Therefore in my opinion the image from ZENG FANZHI Mask Series are trying to tell us that the image was drawn that way its because of the their different races or religion.

comments on the painting :
i think that they are using the happy face mask
because they are not happy together and dont wan to show it . and they cuddle together because
they wan to show that they are close together when they
are not
